Mosaic Bottle
I made this bottle a few months back. I have projects that I meant to post on my blog but never got around to it. I decided to delve into the mosaic world for a while by creating something with broken pieces of glass. I began this project by going to the thrift store to find colored vases and glassware at cheap prices. Joseph accompanied me and found some colored glass that he wanted to use to decorate his bottle as well. We then went home to find our trusty hammer. We took the glassware outside and put it in plastic bags to protect ourselves from flying glass and went to smashing. The plastic bags didn't work very well because they began to rip and tear. I think maybe a canvas bag would have done the job better. Smashing glassware was quite fun. I think it helps to let out some stress and aggression. After the smashing party, I found a clear glass bottle I wanted to decorate. I arranged the broken glass pieces on the clear glass bottle. I was very careful not to cut myself on the glass pieces. Then I glued them on with Liquid Nails (Home Depot adhesive dept). It was quite a sticky situation. :) I was going to fill the pieces with grout but decided to just leave it as is. Because I did not fill it with grout, careful handling is essential, due to broken glass edges being exposed. The bottle is meant for decorative use only. I think it turned out quite nice and colorful. I think Joseph may still be working on his. Some other time I will create something and use grout. I'd like to experience the grouting process.
